23 June 2017 If we see as per law then requirements of HSN codes are as under

Turnover till 5 crores - HSN codes are not required
between 1.5 Cr to 5 Cr - 2 digit HSN codes are to be quoted
above 5Cr - 4 digit HSN codes are to be quoted
and inporters and exporters have to quote full 8 digit HSN codes
