12 July 2010 Dear Experts,

I am claiming the deduction of Interest on Housing Loan(S.O.P.) u/s.24(i)

I am not staying at the above SOP. I am staying at near the office which is convenient for travel. I am paying the rent for the same.

SOP is located at Thane Dist. and rental accommodation is at Mumbai.

Whether i can claim HRA allowance, inspite of claiming interest on Housing loan.

Please advice.

12 July 2010 yes you can take the both deductions simultaneously

12 July 2010 interest on housing loan and HRA both can be claimed as from the reading under section 10(13A) which provides an assessee can claim HRA exemption if he resides on rent near to the employment place .this means the assessee can own residential house in other place.there is no specific section which debars as from claiming both the deduction simultaneously.
