Is rent agreement is mandatory for hra exemption.

Rental agreement is not mandatory if you give rental receipts is more than sufficient to claim HRA benefits and owner PAN number if it is more than 8000/- PM

Yes , it is what my impression is. But my HR is asking specifically for registered rental agreement. I have notarized agreement and he is not accepting it.
