04 November 2014 hello I am working in Delhi based MNC and I am getting 11000 as hra from my employer I am currently staying with my parents and I am giving 20000 p.m as rent to my father. I want to ask whether I can show more than 11000 as rent paid and if yes whether I have to file return for my father too as my father haven't filed return since 2010 and he is also running a shop which is owned by my mother.

04 November 2014 well your father is required to show this as his income...whether he is required to file the return or not will depend on the overall income...on the basis of the facts provided by you, he should not be liable to file the return..

first part, you can show rent in excess of HRA
