I paid rent to my NRO son rupees 96000 per annum in a lump sum (at 8000/pm) through one Cheque during this financial year. I am retired with no HRA. Now that Rs. 5000 per month is exempt can I claim exemption up to Rs 60000? In FY 2017-18 ?.

Any agreement or receipts are available for the Rent related then you can claim...

I have a single receipt for whole 12 months from April to March next. Paid by Cheque.

I think it's not enough. You ll be get 12 receipts or notify 12 months rent in that receipt...
