Dear Sir,,
One my friend is running hotel , where he sells food items such as rice, meat, sweets etc.Whether he will be required take gst registration. Whether he can opt composition scheme

If the T.O. exceeds Rs. 20 Lacs, then only registration is required. The restaurant industry already comes under composition and the rate of tax is 5% and you can not claim Input Tax Credit. (Except for starred hotels where room tariff is Rs. 7500 or above, the rate of Gst is 18% with availability of ITC)

Rate of GST under Composition scheme is as under;
1% is for Traders, 2% is for Manufacturers & 5% is for restaurants.
