First registration whether to do in vat or gst??

04 January 2017 Dear Sir/Mam,
I am going to start a business as a sole proprietor for which i am in need of VAT registration to start my business. Please advice me whether it is the time that i should opt for VAT registration or i should apply for GST registration. As on today, GST is not in practical applicabiltiy.

04 January 2017 I would suggest you can wait for GST registration. For many states, GST registration is already started. If not, they will start in fortnight for many other states. I foresee a challenging migration process from VAT to GST, if you are going to register it now. Until and unless you are compelled to register now for VAT (as your business activity might demand), i would suggest you to hold on for it.
