19 June 2013 please let me know what is the function of doller ($) sign in excel formula ?

19 June 2013 if u want to keep $ as currency, then change it from format cell -> currency.

If you want to put $ to keep cell value constant use shift + 4 or f4.

but $c4*$E4 = same result

my question is why we use $ in formula

19 June 2013 1)$E1 tells Excel you always want to refer to column E.

2)E$1 tells Excel you always want to refer to row 1.

3)$E$1 tells Excel you always want to refer to cell E1.

for you 1st instance applicable may be your requirement is you always want to refer coloumn E.

19 June 2013 Know some thing about dollor sign?why to use?

1)The absolute sign($), is used specially when you write an equation or any other thing in excel, and you want to copy it into other cells.

2)If you write "=E3+F3" in a cell, that cell will show the addition of E3 and F3. If you copy and paste to the cell below that, the equation will automatically change into "=E4+F4", also, if you copy that into the cell to the right of the first one, equation will change into "=F3+G3".

3)The absolute sign ($), avoids that, if you right that before the row or column (e.g. F$3 or $F3 or $F$3) the row, or column, or both, won't change when you copy and paste the equation.

Note: refer rules 1,2,3, as i said iin previous reply for ur reference

Note: it will be great help in sumif,vlookup,and many function while dong reconciliaiton and caluculations to give true results
