Eligible for service tax or not

30 September 2012 Hello Everyone,
i have one doubt in my mind,i want to know whether i am eligible for taking service tax number.
i am estate agent, earning brokerage around 8 lac per year, bank interest around 50,000 and rent around 5,50,000(gross).
someone told me your rent + brokerage cross 10 lac limit of income so you need to take service tax number.
please help me.

30 September 2012 Agreed, Limit of 10 Lac is consolidated limit, not service wise. Now as per recent change all services are covered under service tax except negative list, hence limit is services provided as consolidated not alone. i.e you have to register for service tax no.
