Based on the information provided, you registered for IPCC (Integrated Professional Competence Course) in January 2012 and have attempted the exam five times since then. Here are the criteria for eligibility for the May 2016 exams:
1. **Registration Period**: Normally, the IPCC registration is valid for 4 years. Since you registered in January 2012, your registration would have been valid until January 2016. However, there is a grace period that extends the validity for the next two exam sessions beyond the initial 4-year period.
2. **Grace Period**: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) allows a grace period of two additional attempts beyond the initial 4-year period of registration. This means your registration would typically remain valid until May 2016 exams.
Given that you registered in January 2012 and have attempted the exam five times, your eligibility for the May 2016 exams depends on whether you have exhausted this grace period:
- If your last attempt was within the grace period (typically May 2016 is within this period if you registered in January 2012), you should be eligible to appear for the May 2016 exams.
- However, it's crucial to verify your exact registration details and the specific rules in force at the time of your registration with ICAI. Rules can vary slightly based on changes in ICAI regulations, so it's advisable to confirm directly with ICAI or check the latest notifications on their official website.
To summarize, based on the general guidelines and assuming the typical grace period, you should be eligible for the May 2016 IPCC exams. It's recommended to verify this with ICAI or your regional office to ensure there are no specific conditions that may affect your eligibility.
