22 May 2013 A pensioner with interest income has a total income exceeding Rs.5 lacs. Whether he should file his return online or not?

What is the criteria for E Filing of income tax return??? Should the person have total income exceeding Rs.5 lacs or should he have taxable income exceeding Rs.5 lacs??? Does that mean that for total income or taxable income upto Rs.5 lacs normal paper return can be filed???
