Direct entry to ipcc

I have a question. As per the new direct entry system to ipcc. Does one have to do articleship for 9 months before appering for the exam. Please advise

Can it be done after giving Group 1 exam.

I have checked with CA's. But they all want Ipcc cleared for articleship and also many of them are not ready for 9 months articleship.
