Company is obtaining group medical policy for it employees, i.e. obtaining in bulk for cheaper premiums for employees and their families.
Premium for each employee shall be deducted from their respective salaries and paid to the insurance company
can employee claim benefit of this u/s 80D?

Yes this amount deducted can be claimed u/s 80D.

Deduction u/s 80D is available if the premium is paid (by any mode) by the assessee from his income chargeable to tax. In your case, company is paying premium and deducting it from employee's salary. Hence this deduction is available to the employee. Had the company not recovered premium amount from employee's salary, then deduction u/s 80D was not available.
