01 April 2015 VAT is not applicable on Rent. Service Tax will be applicable. Please ask them why are they charging VAT.

01 April 2015 If it is equipment rental like laptop on rent, they may charge VAT. If this is the case, you need to deduct TDS @ 2% u/s 194I

01 April 2015 According to me, TDS is to be deducted on 'Total amount on the bill less Service Tax'.

Let us wait for other opinions.

02 April 2015 on printer rental carges they paid vat on 70% and service tax on 30% of the whole amount

whether they have to deduct tds or not

02 April 2015 TDS to be deducted u/s 194I @2% if threshold limit of Rs 180000/- p.a. is crossed. TDS to be deducted on amount excluding VAT and Service Tax. If PAN not provided TDS to be deducted@ 20%.
