While Filing individual assessee return on 31st july for the A/Y 13-14, i had made a mistake in filling the column of assessee father's surname.
Now i want to know whether i should revise a return or file a rectification under sec. 154?

File the revised return u/s 139(5).

1)it can be revised u/s 139(5) provided original return filed with in time allowed under section 139(1)
2)you can do rectification only if AO calls for rectification of mistake or after receipt of 143(1)
.

so if revised return not possible ,,wait till AO call for rectification,,if you didnt get any call from AO,,it is fine...

Dear Ganesh in query it is clearly mentioned that the return was filed on 31st July so I think revising the return will be best course of action.
