Correction in assessee father's surname

25 August 2013 While Filing individual assessee return on 31st july for the A/Y 13-14, i had made a mistake in filling the column of assessee father's surname.

Now i want to know whether i should revise a return or file a rectification under sec. 154?

25 August 2013 File the revised return u/s 139(5).

25 August 2013 1)it can be revised u/s 139(5) provided original return filed with in time allowed under section 139(1)

2)you can do rectification only if AO calls for rectification of mistake or after receipt of 143(1)

so if revised return not possible ,,wait till AO call for rectification,,if you didnt get any call from AO,,it is fine...

25 August 2013 Dear Ganesh in query it is clearly mentioned that the return was filed on 31st July so I think revising the return will be best course of action.
