Is it Mandatory to get Previous Auditor's Clearance Cirtificate as far as Audit(44AB) is concerned?

What is mandatory is the COMMUNICATION with the previous auditor. If one is satisfied that he/she has duly communicated to the previous auditor, he/she need not ensure that written communication is received. (Written communication is normally awaited as it solves many other head aches)
