Clarity required on certificate of membership

17 July 2014 Dear Experts,

I cleared Ca final in May 2012. i got enrolled as a member in Nov 2012. I also have my membership Identity card (I am not in practice) Yesterday i received a communication from ICAI for Convocation of 2014. It is for membership nos (series) after mine lyk my no. is suppose 152345 so the range of membership nos for whom convocation is arranged is say 155000- 160000. The letter also says that members who were unable to take Certificate of Membership due to any reason in previous years can also collect theirs in this convocation.

My query is what exactly is Certificate of Membership? What purpose does it serve? Can i receive it by post without having to attend the convocation? Please reply.

17 July 2014 they will send it to you by post if you are unable to collect it in convocation.

17 July 2014 Dear Pooja,

I didnt get any communication for the convocation of 2013. Ideally i was supposed to b present in that convocation to collect my Certificate Of Membership(COM) but because i was neither aware of the the fact dat we receive COM nor bout the convocation i didnt attend that convocation. As per your reply, i should have received COM by post in 2013 itself. I am confused as to what to do in this situation. I work in a private co where no colleague of mine is a CA nor am i in touch with seniors who have cleared CA who could help me with this situation. Kindly advice me on this situation.
