What is the actual date in which the validity of the cheque was reduced from 6 months to 3 months

I'm working now for an organisation and for accounts of 2012-13 they says that cheque is valid for months at that time...and validity of cheque has been reduced to 3 months recently 1 year before. So was there any counter notification regarding that..
