Change of firm name

20 September 2013 Respected Sir, I am having a Proprietorship firm in Delhi.Due to some reasons, I wish to change the name of the same firm and thus want to get the same change done in Sales Tax department/VAT also and thus wish to seek your kind and expert advice in the same regard as I am not aware of the exact and best procedure to get the same done asap.

Please help and oblige with your expert advice and guidance.

21 September 2013 What is the name appearing in the VAT RC. Is it in the name of proprietor or in the name of firm? If it is in the name of the proprietor, there is no much difference you can simply write a letter to the VAT officr, duly acknowledged stating that the name of the firm is changed. If it is partnership firm? you have to surrender the earlier RC and apply for new one.

22 September 2013 Sir, the name mentioned on the RC is my firms name and I need to change the same.Also earlier the proprietor in the firm was my father (who is no more) and thus need to change the proprietor name also.

22 September 2013 There is an amendment form for name change.You have to change in all other licenses like, shops and establishment act, municipal license etc., and submit your application with proof of such changed documents.

In my opinion, since the prop is no more, the sales tax dept will ask you have to surrender your RC and to apply new one.
