Can a partnership firm be converted to proprietary concern?

13 April 2010 I would like to know if a partnership firm registered in Karnataka can be converted to a proprietary concern. Also, what procedures need to be followed for the same.

16 April 2010 Whether this question is related to VAT??

In my opinion, as per the definition of the term "person' given in differne VAT Acts, separate registration will be required for converted proprietorship firm. However, in some states like Assam, such convertion is allowed by filing a specific form of changes in R.C.
