I have a house in Thane which i want to show as self occupied & another house (on rent) in mumbai in which i am living due to my job. can i take benefit of both HRA (in salary) & self occupied house (in house property).

You may declare any house as self occupied.
But you will not HRA benefit since , you are having own house in the city where you are working.

For HRA - you have to incur expenditure towards payment of rent for the house. Since you reside in own house, you are not entitled to claim exemption for HRA.
