An audit trail is a date and time-stamped, sequential record of the history and details around a financial transaction, work event, product development phase, or financial ledger entry.
Yes, it's compulsory from 1st April 2022. The ministry of corporate affairs has issued a notification making it mandatory for the companies to record audit trail of each and every financial transaction done on their accounting software.
