arrears of salary received by pensioneer

Hai Everyone,
Mr.X is a retired central Govt. Employee. He was in receipt of pension. After his expiry his family was in receipt of family pension.
his family received arrears of salary declared by the pay commission into the pension account.
Now my doubt is whether the arrears of salary received by the family is taxable or not.
If taxable, under which head.
Please clarify my query.

In my view, arrears of salary received by a family member is taxable and it will be taxed under Income from Other Sources.
Arrears are just like other lifetime benefits of an employee and are taxable on receipt basis.
