applicability of vat & service tax

28 March 2009 sir, my company is registered in gujarat & we are having our work done at haryana by a contractor also registered in gujarat. Now, i want to know the provisions of vat, cst and service tax applicable to this works contract.
Plz reply ASAP.

01 April 2009 if the work is executed in haryana then you have to register as VAT dealer in the state of haryana and also the sub contractor to whom the contract is sub contracted is also nedd to be registered as VAT dealer in the state of Haryana.
The time limit for registeration is with in one month from the time the person first laible to pay tax under the Act. However the maximum amount not taxable under the act should be looked before registration

as far as Service Tax is concerned both of you again required to register under Service Tax but if already registered anywhere else may take consolidation permission
