16 October 2008 Is the service tax registration compulsory for all IT company or is it for only product based company which offers service to the customer pls let me know

16 October 2008 Service tax registration is compulsory when any company provide taxable service. so if your company providing any taxable service (prescribed in service TAx act) then it is required to get registration withing 30 from the day when this service was provided.

16 October 2008 Could tell me what do you mean by taxable service because in our earlier company where i was working we were project based company executing the customers project in india and we were not registered under service tax and same was suggested by our auditor, but in the present company where iam working they are registered under service tax and it is a product based company

16 October 2008 for taxable service mean kindly study the list of taxable service as u told that you company based on product. so it is not necessary to get registration but any company may get registration as there is no liability to charge service tax so no liability to deposite the tax but they have to file the half yearly return of nill deposite and collection.
