05 February 2016 WETHER ADDITIONAL DEPRECIATION IS allowed to power generation units which follows SLM basis of depreciation? Actually as per VK Singhania sir, only those units are eligible for additional dep which follow WDV method, But I have another book by Nitin Jhaveri, which says power generating units can claim additional dep irrespective of method of dep followed, whether WDV or SLM. KINDLY clarify the same.

05 February 2016 As per section 32(iia), the depreciation allowed as deduction @ 20% on actual cost of 'machinery or plant' (other than ships and aircrafts) including Power generation or generation and distribution companies. However, such additional depreciation is available on block of assets [section 32(ii)] only.

05 February 2016 SLM method is followed separately, so we can say only those units which follow WDV method ( block of assets) can claim additional dep.
