27 December 2019 doing business from 2016 with out any registration. Now Dec'19 apply for gst registration. Which date i will take for commencement of business 2016 or 2019

27 December 2019 In case you were liable to registered GST ( turnover > 20 L ) and you didn't got registered or migrated to GST era w.e.f 01 July 2017 , it will be treated as offence and penalty for 10000/- will be imposed and if your registration will be from 2016 (GST implementation date -July 2017 ) other penalties / interest ie can also be imposed

In case your turnover was less than prescribed limit and now you have become liable , provisions as follows:-

If application for registration has been made within 30 days from the day the person becomes liable for registration under GST, then the registration shall be effective from the date on which he became liable to be registered.

and if he applies for registration after 30 days, then the effective date of registration will be the date when the registration is granted.
