1)Does the word '& Co.' used in the firm name of most CA's signify that a CA is working 'along with others in his/ her firm'?.Why is it that some CA firms have the word ' & Co.' attached to their firm even when they are the only person working in the firm?
2)Other than the words ' Associates' and '& Co.' what words can a CA use to attach with his name for his/ her firm's name?

& co and associates are only to signify the permittable trade name for ca firms and then the firms could be partnership or proprietory.use of such words does not restrict the practising ca to practise alone or necessarrily with some other/associates.
there are no other attachments permitted under ca regulations for a ca firm

1)Can a Practicing CA just have his name as his firm's name and not have anything (& Co. etc) attached to his firm's name?
2)Often a CA firm uses the word ' Chartered AccountantS' below its firms name even though there is only one practicing CA in the whole firm. Why that is so?

A PRACTICING CA. CAN HAVE JUST HIS NAME AS FIRM NAME IF ALONE( WITHOUT &CO.)
BUT USUALLY TO SIGNIFY PRESENCE OF OTHER PARTNERS ,& CO IS USED.
AGAIN IT IS A PRACTICE LIKE LAWYERS, WHO USE THE SIMILAR WORDS-ADVOCATES.
THIS ONLY SHOWS PRESENCE OF OTHER PARTNERS.
BY HAVING PARTNERS IN CA PROFESSION AS YOU KNOW NO. OF ASSIGNMENTS TO HANDLE WILL BE MORE AND THE PROFESSIONAL WORK/ SCOPE IS ENLARGED.
