I have been working outside of India since Nov 2016. It has been almost 1.5 years now. So my status has changed to NRI. Now I am moving back to India in May 2018, how long will it take for me to be Resident again?
And also, could I invest in PPF once I come back or I can invest now also?

You become a resident when you stay in India for at least 182 days during the year. Therefore, you'll become a resident somewhere in November 2018

Thanks for replying Srinivas. I already have a PPF account. My doubt is as an NRI currently Can I still invest in PPF or I need to wait for me to become Indian resident and then invest in PPF?

As per the rules, NRIs are not allowed to open new PPF accounts or continue investing in existing PPF accounts. So if you are currently an NRI, you cannot invest in PPF now.
You need to wait until your residential status changes back to resident Indian, which, as mentioned, will happen when you stay in India for at least 182 days in a financial year (likely by November 2018 if you come back in May 2018).
Once you become a resident again, you can open a new PPF account or resume investing in your existing PPF account.
So in short:
Investment in PPF as NRI: Not allowed
Invest in PPF: After your residential status changes back to resident Indian
