27 July 2013 I have downloaded Justification Report of 24Q of period Q4 of Financial Year 2012-13. While trying to open the text file from excel utility, message is coming as: "JR-ERR004: Selected text file is not proper, please select the correct downloaded text file".

Please help.

13 August 2013 This problem has been experienced by me also.

I do not see any harm if TRACES provides the Justification Report itself in EXCEL SHEET with password rather than to send text file in zipped version. Then further if written to TRACES at contactus or intimations@tdscpc.gov.in chances of any reply or help is by a strong luck.

This problem can be overcome by applying DESI/ALTERNATIVE detailed methods:

a. FORM 16: In text file one can read easily the names of employees due to which demand of TDS has been raised.

Now submit a DOWNLOAD REQUEST for FORM 16 of these employees. On getting the Form 16 the point of error/fault can be known by comparing with the actual figures as per record with employer. And depending upon the situation either pay the demanded Tax or revise the TDS Return.

b. REVISED e-TDS Return: In case employer is fully assure that Tax was deducted and then deposited correctly then straightway choose to REVISE the Return by getting the qtrly statement from TRACES.

It would be useful to download Form 16A if one is sure or have any doubt that the individual amounts of TDS are not in order though total of TDS is correct.

The better option is (b) i.e. REVISE RETURN: Request for CONSO FILE to start with.
