Income Tax Query:
A person is working on ship for 4 months outside India, he is in India for the f.y 2008-09 for 4 months & he stays out of India for 8 months ( in which 4 month he is on ship but working in India). He is working in shipping company & he gets a form 16 in India for the year.
Details :
April to july : not working
August to November : on ship out of India
Dec To march : on ship but working in India.
So how can I file the return for the year 2008-09 wht is the taxable amount & wht is the exemption.

You are a Resident in India for the purpose of Income Tax Act, 1961, since your stay in India is more than 182 days during the previous year.
Accordingly, you have to file your income tax return.
Your taxable amount and exemption details will be as per your Form-16.
If you have any other eligible deduction under chapter VI-A which is not considered in your form-16, you can claim that also in your return.
