15 March 2015 dear experts my question is is a wife (x) liable to pay tax on alimony receive from her x husband in lumsum or monthly on which her husband already pay tax on it

16 March 2015 If the relation of husband and wife is continue it is just like pocket money, gift and hence not taxable. After divorce one time alimony is treated as capital receipt and hence not taxable. Periodic alimony is revenue in nature and it is taxable. This was also view of some high courts also.
