how to apply for tax clearance certificate under income tax act.

The process of applying for and issuing tax clerance certificates for general purposes has been abolished by the department in 2004 itself. Clearance certificate for foreigntravel for thefirst tiem if required is still being issued from the Foreign section of each tax range. For general purposes, tax returns for last 2 or 3 years along with PAN copy will suffice now.
