Tax benefit on purchase of laptop

06 January 2009 I am a salaried employee. I have purchased a new laptop this year. I want to know whether i can get any kind of tax benefit from it.

06 January 2009 If you are taking the amount from the company as a consultant, then you can claim the depreciation on the lap top @ 60%.

06 January 2009 If you are an employee, you cannot get any benefit under the Income Tax Act for the asset you have purchased.

06 January 2009 Dear Sumit,
You had a nice query, but there is no provision in the Income Tax Act providing tax benefits/allowances/deductions on purchase of laptops or any other personal assets except house property.
Yes, if you have any business income then you can claim depreciation on laptop if it is used for the purspose of business.

06 January 2009 As a Salaried employee, there is no benefit available to u.But if ur working as a consultant or if ur a businessman, u get depreciation benefit @60% of the laptop cost.
