Hey! If your Tally 9 company data folder is visible in the data directory but the company name doesn’t show up on the Gateway of Tally menu, here are some common causes and fixes:
---
### Why this happens:
* **Company folder exists but data is incomplete or corrupted** * **Company data not properly synced or not in expected format** * **Tally config/cache issue**
---
### Steps to troubleshoot:
1. **Check Folder Name & Path:**
* The company folder should be directly inside the Tally data folder (usually `C:\Tally\Data`). * Make sure there are no nested folders inside the company folder (like `Company1\Company1`).
2. **Check `cmpinfo.xml` File:**
* Inside your company folder, look for a file named `cmpinfo.xml`. * This file contains the company name details shown on the Gateway screen. * If missing or corrupted, Tally won’t list the company.
3. **Restore from Backup:**
* If you have a backup (`.tsf` file), try restoring it via **Gateway of Tally > Alt + F3 (Restore)**. * Restore to a new folder and check if it appears.
4. **Re-index the Data:**
* Sometimes scanning the data again helps. Run Tally Data Repair utility or press **Ctrl + Alt + R** in Tally to reload the company list.
5. **Check for Hidden Folders or Permissions:**
* Make sure the company folder is not hidden and you have full read/write permissions.
6. **Try Opening Data Manually:**
* Use **Select Company > Browse** option in Tally and manually select the company folder.

### If still not showing:
* The data may be corrupted even if scan doesn't show errors. * Consider restoring from an older backup if available. * For critical data, professional Tally data recovery services may help.
