Stipend recd to A Doctor ,is it Salary ???

17 September 2008 Dear all, oneof my friend is studing MS ( Doctor) he has recd a stipend paid by Govt Hospital , pls suggest wether it is taxable as salary or other source ??? pls suggest

18 September 2008 Stipend is taxable while scholarship is not. Ascertain the nature of payment. Stipend is taxable as other income, if no employer employee relationship is there. If such a relationship exists, then taxable as salary.
