11 August 2011 What is the difference between Stampduty & Franking ?

Both are revenue for the state govt or central govt ?

11 August 2011 Both are same. franking means stamp duty is paid and red marks and words appearing on stamp paper is franked or imposed on the agreement by the franking machine of the stamp registrar office. u can say it is one of the mode of payment of stamp duty. Stamp duty is state government tax.

11 August 2011 Can I do franking on affidavit ? Because I have been told to do affidavit on Stamp paper only, franking not allowed. Pls advise.

12 August 2011 As I said earlier franking is one of the mode of payment of stamp duty. U pay stamp duty either by purchasing stamps or stamp paper or franking. It makes no difference whether the affidavit is on stamp paper or on a franked paper. In nutshell, franking can be done on affidavit.
