I want to know in detail how one should audit service tax

First you should know the nature of business , by this you can know how many services applicable. check service tax registration and any amandement their after. check past three year returns and corrospondance with department. check any department audit was conducted and what was result.further you may ask on my mail cabrijbhushan@gmail.com.

after understanding the business of entity best way to audit is prepair a reconcilation of service rendered, service tax payble and cenvate receivable with books of accounts and return and check invoice raised and bill received for cenvat check the connection of input service with output service
