Is doctors whose gross receipts exceeds 10L during the FY:2011-12 liable to pay service tax.

Yes, he has to register as and when gross receipts exceeds 9 lacs and pay service tax on amount exceeding 10 lacs, for the first year and from 2nd year from the starting receipts cz doctors are professional who are giving services.

As the gross receipts exceeded 10 lacs in last year, ST is payable on services rendered during current FY

What my doubt is as doctors are providing basic necessities to people,is it covered under service tax.As charging service tax will increase the cost of treament.

Still the medical service is covered under service tax ambit and if the amount exceeded the exemption limit, then ST liability will arise.

Also the medical service providers are charging service tax where the amount is exceeding the exemption limit.
