09 April 2012 my father's D.O.B. is 16-02-1954 when he we will be considered as senior citizen according to income tax law ? from which year I can submit his income tax return under Senior Citizen category ?

10 April 2012 From assessment year 2014-15 you can submit his return for Senior Citizen. The definition of senior citizen is very much critical it say on attaining 60 years the person shall be treated at senior citizen. In my opinion once you enter the age of 60 you are eligible but the computer does not accept this it accepts only on completion. So, on 16.2.2014 your father will be completing 60 years and before end of the financial year 2014 he has become above 60 years and accordingly you can file the return as senior citizen for this year.
