Section 80u certificate of disability

25 July 2016 Hi,
Can we get the certificate of disability from medical authority in a private hospital or should it be certified by CMO from a government hospital. My mother was earlier treated at Jaslok 5-6 years ago and now because of her disability our family doctor treats her. Note Jaslok again is not a government hospital. kindly advice if the certificate provided by family doctor with supporting documents from the past will be valid proof for claiming deductions u/s 80U. Also for FY2015-16 the certificate should be dated before 31st march 2016?

Any advice in this matter will be helpful

25 July 2016 To avail benefit U/s 80U Certificate from Medical authority is required and not necessarily from CMO of Govt Hospital. A standard format has been prescribed for the purpose, which need to be signed by Medical Superintendent /CMO/Head of Hospital with seal. Medical Authority means any hospital/institution specified by notification by the appropriate Govt for the purpose of Person with Disability Act ,1995.
