Section 260 of the Companies Act, 1956

18 June 2010 As per Section 260 Board can appoint Additional Directors who shall hold office upto the date of next AGM.
If a company appoints additional director on 15.10.2009 and holds an EGM on 10.04.2010 for some urgent business in which the company receives nomination from a memebr u/s 257 and if in the EGM the resolution is passed against the Director i.e not to appoint him as Director liable to retire by rotation by members. Then whether his tenure will end at this EGM or forthcoming AGM of the Company.

18 June 2010 A Director can be removed by complying with the procedure mentioned in Sectin 284.

An Additional Director retires at the AGM. Till such time he continues to be a director unless specifically removed by complying with the above stated procedure. If the members pass a resolution that he should not be re-appointed, then it has to be at the AGM. Or else remove him now only by complying the procedure stated in Section 284.
