25 April 2012 Dear Members, good afternoon to all. I need a small clarification on scrutiny proceedings of individuals..Came to know that, there will be no scrutiny proceedings on a individual assessee if his gross total income does not exceed rs.10 Lakhs. i.e no scrutiny notices on individuals whose total income does not exceed Rs.10 Lakhs. Is this contension is true ot not? if yes can you provide the exact circular allowing the same.

25 April 2012 Yes, CBDT in its press release No. 402/92/2006-MC (07 OF 2011) dated 14.03.2011 has said that tax returns filed by senior citizens above 60 years and small taxpayers with gross total income of less than Rs 10 lakh will not be scrutinised in a routine manner.They will be subjected to scrutiny only where the Income Tax department is in possession of credible information.
