14 July 2011 Can an employer provide both children education allowance and also education facility to children of the employees. if so, can an employee avail both the exemptions subject to maximum limit given under the income tax act.

I mean Children education allowance of maximum 100 PM upto 2 children and also upto1000 PM irrespective of the number of children can be claimed as maximum exemption or not.

Please tell me whether both are mutually exclusive or both of them can be availed by the employee if the employer provides both the allowance and facility.

14 July 2011 U/S 10(14) read with Rule 2BB, is the Original Educational Allowance which is100/per Month Per Child subject to a maximum of 2 children.

16 July 2011 Hi Shiva Kumar. Thanks for your quick response. But please also tell me whether there is anywhere in the Income tax which states that both are mutually exclusive ie if one is claimed the other cannot be claimed. I can find such thing only in the case of medical expenses reimbursement by the employer and interest free loan provided to employee for incurring specified diseases.
