Sahara case -- root cause

Why was Sahara group denied access to public deposits by RBI. in 2008 ?
i guess the reason for this present Case goes to 2008. What happened at that time which i dont know and so i am not able to figure out the problem.
Being a CA student its very important to stay in touch with Current affairs especially those relating to Securities and Markets. !
