Safeguard duty v/s protective duty

23 September 2016 I am not getting the difference b/w safeguard duty and protective duty as purpose of both is to protect domestic industry.
Whether both can b levied simultaneously?

09 November 2016 Safeguard duty is imposed on specified goods imported on large quantities and they are causing or threatening to cause serious injury to domestic industry. It is a need-based protection to domestic industry for limited period with ultimate objective of restoring free and fair competition. Protective duty aims at protecting immediate interests of Indian industry. It will be valid till the date prescribed in the notification.
