I have done efiling for AY2012-13 belately and wrongly filed. I cannot do revised return. As I have done efiling, ITR - V would be valid only if it is sent within 120 days to Bangalore. My query is : Can i do manual filing now without submitting ITR- V generated electronically.

Though it is not dealt anywhere,I think your opinion is right.If the ITR-V is NOT sent, it becomes invalid return.Then Manual return can be filed.

Why can't we file rectification petition as the mistake is apparent though there would be change in total income?

Rectification only after intimation is passed, you will be ending up with Demand. SO better to file manual return and seek urgent processing by abandoning efiled return
