20 July 2025 Regarding your import stock booking date, hereโ€™s a simple explanation:

Supplier Invoice Date (25.08.2018): This is the date when your supplier raised the invoice, but you have not yet physically received the goods.
Bill of Entry Date (date of filing at customs after arrival, e.g., around 20.09.2018): This is the official date when the goods legally enter your country and clear customs.
For accounting and inventory purposes, the stock is generally booked on the date when the goods physically arrive and you take possession โ€” which would be the Bill of Entry date or the date of actual receipt at your warehouse/port (usually around 20.09.2018).

You usually record the invoice in accounts payable based on the supplier invoice date, but the stock (inventory) is recognized only when you have the goods in hand, i.e., the date of Bill of Entry or actual receipt.

So, for booking stock in your books, consider the Bill of Entry date or date of physical receipt rather than supplier invoice date.
