28 June 2007 hello sir/madam,

i have cleared my CPT in may 2007 and have joined articles from 7th of june. i need to know in what respects we must be practically trained... my firm suggests me to read income tax book to know the sections... Is this what done in all firms? Generally what kind of work can we expect as a fresher as we join articles immediately after completing 12th exam and clearing CPT... Please i need your guidance

02 July 2007 Krithika, as a school passout one cannot expect you to be familiar with the Income Tax Sections and cramming them from a book will not solve any purpose. Practilally doing the work in the firm under the supervision of a senior will prove helpful to you when you will study Income Tax at the next level of your CA course. Initially you will be given some audit work in which you will be required to test check the entries passed and their accuracy. U must learn the clerical part of Income Tax first like filling and filing of returns. E-filing of the returns of companies, various challans etc. You should ask your seniors whenever you are in doubt. Nobody will teach you anything like a school classroom You have to learn it on your own. Read your Books.Income Tax and Audits form the bulk of work in most CA firms.
