Sir, It is known that bank account number is mandatory to claim refund of income tax. My doubt is if i want to opt to direct credit of refund to bank account, how to find whether my account is ECS or not. My account consists of nine digits and my banker says to mention the same 9 digits and micr code to get the refund directly credited to bank. Is he correct or ECS account contains more digits than nine.

digits doesnt matter for availing ECS facility as these both are nowhere linked and to know the availability of ECS facility, you should ask in your bank, and if your banker says as such, there may be the chances of availability of ECS facility. Further, to ask again will not matter, you should confirm it and avail the refund afterwards.

Go through your bank statement if received by you every month and in case it is pass book then get it updated the entry of ECS appearing as Income Tax Department is the refund amount through ECS
